The do's and don't in Dubai

As glorious as Dubai sounds with all the modern glitz and glam, it is still a conservative country. The United Arab Emirates is under the rule of Sharia law. Sharia law imposes severe penalties for those who break the law. The Sharia law in the UAE includes drug trafficking, public displays of affection, public drunkenness, inappropriate behavior, unmarried couples living together, disrespecting the royal family, no stealing, no gambling, or dressing inappropriately. As horrible as westerners may find this, it is all common sense which makes crime rates low and Dubai one of the safest cities in the world. From my personal experience living here, I could leave my items unattended at the beach without any worries. Since the UAE is a conservative country, you would not dress in revealing attire in public spaces where families go. It is permissible to wear bikinis and trendy clothing; however, you won’t find someone wearing crop tops grocery shopping. It is also respectful to cover up when visiting religious areas. The key is to dress modestly during the day. Refrain from using vulgar language in public, as this can put you quickly behind bars. Do not offend anyone, and always remember to be respectful. Drinking is permissible in Dubai, usually at hotels/resorts. It is also crucial to observe the holy month of Ramadan. During the month of Ramadan, absolutely no one should be eating, drinking, or smoking in public. Those who violate rules during Ramadan will receive a considerable fine. During the holy month of Ramadan, non-muslims can order takeaway, or you will see the covered-up sections in the mall where you may dine. Dubai is honestly a great and safe place to be; remember common sense!
